Psychotherapist
He/him
Dan Kazenel is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who received his Master of Social Work from Simmons University, and a Bachelor’s of Music Education at Northwestern University. As a therapist, Dan has experience working with children, teens, adults, and families in the school, outpatient, and community mental health settings. In these settings, he has worked with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD and phobias, life stress, complex trauma, LGBTIA2S+ concerns, ADHD, and autism. As a former educator, Dan especially enjoys working with teenagers and young adults who are managing the variety of contending expectations which come along with this life stage. As a former professional musician, Dan understands the value of art and creativity in the healing process as well as the helpfulness of structure and consistency when needed.
Dan grounds his practice in establishing a warm and affirming therapeutic alliance, the relationship between client and clinician, as it has been shown to be one of the best predictors of success in therapy. From there, Dan believes in collaboratively establishing with his clients a flow, mutual understanding, and goals. Throughout this process, Dan pulls from the evidence-based modalities that he and the client see fit.
Dan is a DBT-certified therapist, and has trained in and delivered CBT, motivational interviewing, exposure therapy, attachment regulation and competency therapy, and play therapy. In practice, these modalities can look like building tools and strategies to manage life, such as meditation and mindfulness skills, building insight and emotion identification and regulation skills, working through distorted thinking, verbally processing experiences, and validating the pieces of us that need love or care.
